Irene Messina
Professore/ssa Ordinario/aBiografia
Irene Messina è Psicologa, Psicoterapeuta e ha conseguito un Dottorato di Ricerca in Scienze Psicologiche presso l’Università degli Studi di Padova nel 2013. Successivamente, ha maturato un’ampia esperienza nella ricerca post-dottorale e nella didattica accademica, collaborando dal 2013 al 2018 con istituzioni italiane, come l’Università degli Studi di Padova e l’Università degli Studi di Trento, e internazionali, come il Dipartimento di Psicoterapia III dell’Universitätsklinikum Ulm (Germania).
Dal 2018 è docente presso Universitas Mercatorum, inizialmente come Professoressa Associata e, dal 2024, come Professoressa Ordinaria di Psicologia Dinamica. Attualmente, ricopre anche i ruoli di Coordinatrice del Corso di Laurea in Psicologia del Lavoro e delle Organizzazioni (LM-51), Coordinatrice del Servizio di Counseling Psicologico “Connessi e in ascolto”, e Delegata per l’Internazionalizzazione presso il Dipartimento di Scienze Umane e Sociali.
Oltre alla sua attività di ricerca, è impegnata nella divulgazione scientifica e ha fatto parte del direttivo della Society for Psychotherapy Research – Italian Group (SPR-IAG). Inoltre, partecipa attivamente alle attività del Society for Psychotherapy Research, ricoprendo il ruolo di Country Contact per l’Italia all’interno dell’European Chapter.

Le Principali aree di ricerca in ambito accademico riguardano:
Gli interessi di ricerca si concentrano sulla psicoterapia, le neuroscienze affettive e la psicologia clinica. In particolare:
L’integrazione tra psicologia clinico-dinamica e neuroscienze affettive, con un focus sull’applicazione delle tecnologie di neuroimaging per lo studio della regolazione emozionale (incluse le forme di regolazione non volontaria ed interpersonale), della psicopatologia (disturbi della personalità, stati ansiosi e depressivi) e della psicoterapia.
La formazione degli psicoterapeuti, attraverso ricerche longitudinali sull’efficacia dei percorsi formativi e sull’evoluzione delle competenze dei terapeuti. Questi studi sono condotti anche nell’ambito del gruppo di ricerca internazionale SPRISTAD (Society for Psychotherapy Research - Interest Section on Therapist Training and Development).
Burnout accademico, con studi sulle variabili che influenzano la salute mentale degli studenti universitari e sull’efficacia di interventi volti alla prevenzione e al trattamento di questa problematica. Questi studi sono condotti parallelamente ad attività di terza missione volte alla promozione del benessere degli studenti presso Universitas.
Nuove frontiere dell’intelligenza artificiale applicata al settore della psicoterapia, con sperimentazioni in vari ambiti che spaziano dalla previsione della risposta ai trattamenti psicologici, all’analisi del processo terapeutico.
