Marilena Aiello

Ha conseguito la laurea specialistica in Psicologia nel 2007 e il dottorato di ricerca in Neuroscienze Cognitive nel 2011 presso l'Università degli Studi di Roma "La Sapienza". Durante il dottorato, ha condotto la sua attività di ricerca principalmente presso la Fondazione Santa Lucia IRCCS di Roma, esplorando la relazione tra attenzione spaziale e cognizione numerica, con particolare focus sui disturbi numerici nei pazienti cerebrolesi destri. Nel 2011 si è trasferita a Trieste, dove ha ricoperto il ruolo di assegnista di ricerca e successivamente di ricercatore a tempo determinato di tipo A presso il settore di Neuroscienze Cognitive della SISSA (Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati). Dal 2022 al 2025 è stata assegnista di ricerca presso il Dipartimento di Psicologia dell'Università di Bologna.

Le Principali aree di ricerca in ambito accademico riguardano:
Il suo principale interesse di ricerca riguarda le neuroscienze del comportamento alimentare, con particolare attenzione alle alterazioni motivazionali, cognitive e neurali alla base dei disturbi alimentari. Ha approfondito queste tematiche in pazienti affetti da sindromi neurodegenerative, come la malattia di Parkinson e la demenza frontotemporale, nonché in soggetti adulti e anziani con sovrappeso e obesità, combinando tecniche comportamentali, di neurostimolazione (come la tDCS) e di neuroimaging. Un recente interesse di ricerca si concentra sugli aspetti cognitivi implicati nell'ortoressia nervosa, un disturbo caratterizzato da una preoccupazione patologica verso il cibo “puro” e sano, con rilevanti implicazioni per la comprensione dei comportamenti alimentari e della salute mentale.
