Biografia

Pietro Cataldi holds a Ph.D. in Bioengineering and Robotics (2018, with a specialization in Bionanotechnology) from the Università degli Studi di Genova and the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT). He has worked at leading European research institutions, including the National Graphene Institute at the University of Manchester (2018–2020), and IIT’s centers in Milan (2020–2022) and Genoa (2022–2025). His research has contributed to major initiatives such as the EU Graphene Flagship and the ERC-funded ELFO project. He has also collaborated with industrial partners including Directa Plus, Airbus, BASF, Avanzare, and Ghelfi Ondulati S.p.A.

Dr. Cataldi has been awarded individual grants, including a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship (BioConTact, 2021) and a Young Researchers MSCA grant (BioSens, 2025). He currently serves as a tenure-track Assistant Professor at Università Mercatorum. He is in the editorial board of Advanced Electronic Materials (Wiley). His research interests include emerging biobased and/or biodegradable materials for electronics/robotics, specifically biopolymer-based composites engineered to fit multiple applications, from structural components to functional sensors.
